CEO MEETS TOBIAS ELLWOOD MP MINISTER FOR DEFENCE PEOPLE AND VETERANS ON 18TH SEPTEMBER

Steve Bentham-Bates  the CEO of Help 4 Homeless Veterans a Barnsley based charity that works around Barnsley and Doncaster visited the Ministry of Defence on 18th September to meet the Veterans Minister to discuss issues affecting homelessness for veterans of HM Forces.

Along with the Chief Executives of STOLL,  HAIG HOUSING and Chair of The WAR WIDOWS ASSOCIATION,  Mr Bentham-Bates asked the Minister to encourage other local authorities to give more help to Veterans of HM Forces.  He explained how the charity engages via the Community Covenant with both Barnsley and Doncaster Councils through their respective Housing groups Berneslai and St Leger Homes to offer homes through the charity when other options are available to the veterans. This model is now seen as a way other areas of the country could copy.

In the past 5 years the charity has helped around 350 homeless veterans; in June the charity won a Community Initiative Award from Rotherham based company Efficiency North and it has been put forward to the finals of the Duke of Yorks Community Awards 2018 .
Steve said, “we are a small but growing charity that provides rapid help when and where we can to veterans.  The meeting with the Minister confirms that Help 4 Homeless Veterans is building a  well deserved good reputation for delivering help to vulnerable veterans amongst the Ex-Service community.”
